Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead is billed as a romantic comedy with zombies. Well I am sure there are zombies in this film. Er.. and that’s about it.

Shaun works at an electrical store, is 29 and going nowhere. His life consists of going down the pub after work with his mates. His girlfriend gets fed up of this and dumps him.

Then zombies appear from nowhere. The film never explains where they actually come from, but this is done on purpose and at one point there is a program on TV explaining it and the channel is turned over just before you find out the reason. Clever.

Shaun ends up gathering up his mum and some friends and locking themselves in the pub until the zombies go away. At least that’s the theory. The zombies get in the pub and they are trapped.

I don’t think I’ve really given away the plot, because there isn’t one. I don’t think I’ve ruined any of the jokes because there are none of those either. I think I am the only one in the known universe to not like Shaun of the Dead. Is it a horror? No, I wasn’t scared. Is it a comedy? Well I didn’t laugh. Is it romantic? Well, are zombies romantic to you??

I was really looking forward to this film but to me it ended up being rubbish. I would love some comments from people who’ve liked it to explain exactly why they do. If I had paid to see this film, I’d want a refund. I’m sorry to every other single person who has watched it, but I think this film is crap.

  1. I liked it.

I think a contributing factor was that Simon Pegg was a student of the Steve Coogan school of comedy.
I thought the fact that you never found out how the zombies came about was funny. When they pretended to be zombies was funny.
It was romantic in the fact that he and his girlfriend ended up back together, he faced zombies to try and save her, now thats romantic :)

Its been a while since I’ve seen it, I’ll have to watch it again.

  2. You are a fool. This is a very good film. And it’s a zombie film, not a horror film.

  3. Shaun of the Dead; total shite. 0/5. Boring, not funny, not scary, not even a piss take. Why this movie got made, I’ll never know. Avoid and save your £3.50.
