Chasing rainbows…

About

With a lift of his chin, and a bit of a grin, without any doubting or quiddit, he started to sing and he tackled the thing, that couldn't be done, and he did it

It has been a long time since I started work at 9 of a morning. Potentially years. Heck, it’s been a long time since I’ve gotten up before midday! So to start work that early was something of an achievement. And it was a testiment to the 4 alarms I set, that I managed to actually make it to work for dead on 9.

To be honest, I have just about the same idea of how to open the store at the end of today as I did yesterday. There is a lot to do, and it will take me a couple more tries to remember everything. I shall make some notes at some point, possibly next week when I am opening the store twice more.

Ever the sucker for more punishment, I am working another 5 hours tomorrow morning. This time it’s to take in a delivery (which may not even arrive by the time I leave!).

I actually worked 2 shifts today - 3 hours in the morning, and 6 hours in the evening. Working 9 hours is not really a problem, it’s the fact that I was up “early” that did me in. After all, I used to work 10 hours a day, 5 days a week back in my prime, and that was when I used to be sat at my desk working for 10 past 8 every morning. Crazy!

Work was relatively uneventful. The store was pretty dead, which gave me and Neil the opportunity to perform many time consuming status checks, and putting 100 DVDs into the correct order in the wall. Joy

When I eventually got home, I watched the Shawshank Redemption again! Different to last night in the fact that I listened to Frank Darabont’s director’s commentary. Unlike some I have listened to, it was very insightful and he talked for the entire duration of the movie. Too often people commenting tend to pause for long periods of time to watch what they are supposed to be talking about. So top marks Frank! ;)

It’s probably a good time for me to go to sleep now. My chances of getting up for work in time are minimal at best already!

  1. Is that on the anniversary edition of the DVD? Is it worth forking out for?

Work sounds delightful. At least when you’re reordering DVDs you’re not dealing with customers. Customers suck (then again, so do branches, mortgage centres and other banks but those are my own personal issues completely unrelated to the rental environment).

Anyway, at least you’re making money and not spending it all on £75 boots.

  2. It is indeed the 10th Anniversary edition. So far its been well worth the money. 3 discs for £12.79 can’t be bad. I haven’t watched the extras but I hear they are good as well. And its the Shawshank Redemption. Is there such a thing as too many copies? :)

The disc is quite cool in that it asks if you want vocal navigation for those people hard of sight. First DVD I have come across to do so :)

Some customers are ok, just most of the ones in Alvaston suck. Its them pesky kids that annoy me. Especially the ones with knives…

  3. Russ forced me into this… I wanted to go to bed or something like that. Anyway, it wasn’t my idea, but frankly, he blows goats :D
    There Russ… happy now?

    Remember… I love you guy!
