Our (long) weekend in Scotland

Cat and I went up to Scotland last week on Thursday. Our friends Becky and Neil live up in Kirkcaldy, and with it being Neil's birthday on the 11th, we decided to go and visit. We booked some cheap train tickets, and spent most of Thursday getting up there. We had a pretty relaxed evening eating curry and talking.

On Friday, we went for a walk down to the beach before heading off to Coylumbridge, which is near Aviemore. Becky's parents have a lodge there, part of the hotel complex there, and so we were treated to stunning views, and lovely walks, not to mention a lovely warm lodge to come home to.

Friday evening was pretty relaxing. Dan was collected from the airport, and we all had a tour of the grounds and then dinner.

On Saturday we went for quite a nice long walk, up to one of the lochs (there is only one lake in Scotland). The place was like a picture on a postcard. Heavy snowfall the night before had left everything in a good foot of snow. Walking was sometimes heavy going, but always beautiful. That afternoon, we watched the rugby after a burger, where England won!

That night we went to an Australian themed restaurant in Aviemore to celebrate Neil's birthday. It was very nice. I had jerked chicken, which came with baked bananas wrapped in bacon. It was really lovely, and I will try and make it myself some time!

Sunday came and went, and before we knew it, it was time to head back to Kirkcaldy. The following morning we got the train home from Kirkcaldy. The first few trains were either late, cancelled or broke down, so we were worried about getting to the next station on time to make our connection. Fortunately we had just enough time to get there, grab a Boots Meal Deal, and get on our train.

The train back was absolutely full, mostly of welsh people returning from the rubgy match with Scotland. A brief celebrity moment occurred, as I was in the same carriage as Jeremy Guscott, who had been providing the commentary for the match.

Milton Keynes was an icy death trap when we returned, and we got the bus back, before walking carefully over an ice rink back home! The weekend had come and gone too fast, but the time there was absolutely magical, and very beautiful. Hopefully once I can work out the gallery plugin I have, I will post some!!
